The experimental explorations of quantum mechanical phenomena successfully rely on the fabrication of nanometer-scale structures. In this talk I will present a novel approach to synthesize crystalline nanorods, which can act as excellent field emitters. This work originates from my Master research project in the group of prof. Jeff de Hosson.
In the second part, I will report the recent progress of my PhD study on carbon nanotube quantum transport in the group of prof. Leo Kouwenhoven. We achieve a high quality factor mechanical resonator using a suspended nanotube, and demonstrate coherent manipulation of single spins. Our results indicate the feasibility of detecting spin-phonon coupling in carbon nanotubes.
