|Title:||Beyond the Spin Crisis|
This colloquium will address the major developments that have taken place in spin physics, which aims to describe the spin of particles and their spin-dependent interactions. Starting with the electron and muon spin, the talk will next focus on the quark and gluon spin structure of the proton. The so-called spin crisis will be described, including its implications for spin physics experiments, such as those performed at Brookhaven National Laboratory and at CERN. Unexpected spin asymmetries in polarized and unpolarized scattering experiments, as well as searches for new physics using spin as a tool, will be discussed.
