Landscape Perceptions

The value of nature and landscape is intricate in the search for sustainable development. As economic development processes many natural areas are transformed to either urbanized areas or to intensively used agricultural, forestry or mining areas. However, with more mature economic development a re-appreciation of nature and landscape takes place due to their importance for people’s health and higher needs, leading to for instance increased calls for nature and landscape protection and growth of nature-based tourism. Within these contrasting movements research around Landscape and spatial change aims to build fundamental theory and practical tools in the fields of 1) valuation of nature, landscape, cultural heritage and public space 2) advanced (online) PPGIS tools for identifying landscape values and landscape governance, 3) integrative decision support tools around regional development, infrastructure, land use and real estate planning.
