Towards a regional model of the distribution of facilities and services in North East Fryslân 2020-2030

Principal Researchers

dr. Tialda Haartsen & dr. Marien de Bakker

Tialda hHaartsen and Marien de Bakker did a research project into the development of a ´population decline proof´ model of the distribution of facilities and services in the region of North East Fryslân (municipalities of Achtkarspelen, Dantumadiel, Dongeradeel, Ferwerderadiel, Kollumerland c.a. en Tytsjerksteradiel). Result is that a significant decrease in child−related facilities such as primary schools and childcare is needed, even if the total number of facilities per head stays the same. In the future, less bus stops and sport facilities are required. The report presents a number of scenario´s that zoom in on specific types of facilities, and on potential combinations of facilities. These scenario´s will be used in the continuation of the project: the discussion meetings with inhabitants and local policymakers in the area. This follow up will be implemented by Public Result, commissioned by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Kingdom Relations. Tialda Haartsen is involved as scientific advisor.
