Pre-clinical data can be used to better understand various patient and treatment characteristics that need to be considered when developing risk models for the prediction of treatment outcome. Here, we describe using advanced cell/organoid culture techniques and proper animal models that could help in such a process by providing means to test and generate hypotheses in a controlled environment, which is not possible in clinical trials.
