Pieter Lieftinck was a Social-Democrat Minister of Finance in all Dutch cabinets through the whole periode of Indonesian decolonization 1945-1949. He played a central role in deciding about the two police actions, were financial reasons were crucial factor. He was more of a pragmatic politician giving priority to stats interests than that he was guided by social-democrat ideology.
