In this thesis we study two phenomena occurring in models of chemical reactions. We investigate the decrease of the reaction rate in the hydrogen exchange reaction and a lengthy kind of dissociation called roaming that is, among others, exhibited by CH_4^+. We analyze the equations following from classical approximation of these reactions, whereby certain structures arising from these equations are identified and understood to cause both of the above-mentioned phenomena. We do this by introducing a novel approach of dealing with systems that are chaotic and besides explaining two chemical phenomena we contribute to a better understanding of deterministic chaos in mathematics.
