Since the late 1980s, scholars in Europe and America have taken interest in the history of revolutionary politics in the Dutch Republic during the last decades of the eighteenth century. This article shows the participation of Mennonites in the 'late' Dutch political Enlightenment and their role in the transformation of political culture', especially in the province of Friesland in the 1780s and 1790s.
