Jews settled in Overijssel as long ago as the first half of the 14th century. In 1349, however, these early Jewish settlers were persecuted, then banished, as they were thought responsible for the Black Death, whisch then broke out. During the 17th century Jews again settled in Overijssel, but their presence was only tolerated, on the understanding that they would not proselytize the Gentile population. ... Zie: Summary.
