Research interests

Roel van Eijk has many years of experience as technician in molecular biology and worked at different places, each with its own interest (proteomics, virology, pharmaceutical technologies, cancer research and molecular evolution). In those years he got familiar with lab management in several laboratories and a broad spectrum of techniques in micro, molecular and cell biology and virology. Due to his own interest and enthusiasm he obtained good skills in these techniques. Therefore he is able to support members of the institute theoretical and practical in these matters. He is also interested to develop, use and learn new techniques to achieve new goals.

As technician in molecular biology within GELIFES he fulfills several tasks:

Roel is responsible for the setup, optimization, performance and/or evaluation of methods and techniques in molecular biology / genetics, biochemistry (gas-chromatography)  and in cell biology. Examples are q-PCR, genotyping, cell culturing, construction of plasmids etc. These activities take place on basic and biological safety level 1 and 2 laboratories.

He also manage a MLI and MLII laboratory, which includes a.o. laboratory maintenance, ordering of lab supply and safety/waste management.

Besides these tasks, Roel supports co-workers within the institute practically and theoretically concerning methods and techniques in molecular biology / genetics, biochemistry (gas-chromatography) and cell biology.
