OXYGREEN is a European research project funded by the EC with twelve participating groups from The Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Italy, France and Poland.

The OXYGREEN project aims at the design and construction of novel oxygenating enzymes for the production of bioactive compounds that can be used in medicine, food and agriculture.

The enzymes and whole-cell biocatalysts that will be developed in this project should catalyze the specific incorporation of oxygen to afford synthesis of bioactive compounds in a selective and clean way, with minimal side products and with no use of toxic materials.

We specifically aim to redesign cytochrome P450 monoooxygenases, Baeyer-Villiger monooxygenases, and non-heme iron dioxygenases.
