Research

Researchers from this research unit are all part of the GION education/research institute, which is located within the faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences. GION education/research carries out scientific, theoretical and practice-oriented research into various research areas within the educational field. Our goal is to expand the body of knowledge about education and to improve educational practice.

There are four major research themes covered by our research unit:

Some of the research projects are commissioned, for example by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science or the Municipality of Groningen. Other research projects are funded by NWO or NRO. Research is conducted on topics such as the design of learning environments, the organization of teaching, the design of quality assurance and good governance, students’ learning careers, and issues of success rates and further educational prospects. Research questions addressed include: How do students develop from primary school to higher education? How can teachers improve their instruction so that their students perform better? How are schools managed as effectively and efficiently as possible? How are effective interventions in education examined and reported? This is just a sampling of the various questions we are trying to answer.
