Horizon 2020 grant for the Intelligent Systems group

21 september 2015

Within a consortium of 6 universities and 2 companies, the Intelligent Systems group acquired a Horizon 2020 grant for the project 'TrimBot2020 - A gardening robot for rose, hedge and topiary trimming’. The TrimBot2020 project will research the robotics and vision technologies to prototype the first outdoor garden trimming robot. The robot will navigate over varying terrain, approach rose bushes, hedges and boxwood topiary, to trim them to an ideal shape. The robot will be based on a modified Bosch Indego robot lawnmower, which will navigate using a user-defined garden map and 3D scene analysis, and then visually servo a novel electric plant cutter.

The grant amount for the Intelligent Systems group is kEuro 650 for a project period of 4 years. The involved researchers are  Prof. N. Petkov, Dr. M. Wilkinson and a postdoc.
