“American Studies Today” — The symposium, hosted by the American Studies Department on the occasion of the inaugural lecture of Prof. Laura Bieger, explores the current state of the field and the challenges of teaching American Studies today. Guest speakers are Winfried Fluck, Professor em. of American Culture at the John F. Kennedy Institute for North American Studies of Freie Universität Berlin, a founder and former director of the Graduate School for North American Studies at FU Berlin and Co-Director of the “Futures of American Studies”-Institute at Dartmouth College; George Blaustein, Assistant Professor of American Studies at the University of Amsterdam and the current president of the Netherlands American Studies Association (NASA); and Rieke Jordan, Assistant Professor at the Institut für England- und Amerikastudien at the University of Frankfurt.
