CHS welcomes Rasa Navickaite (CEU Budapest) for this extra seminar organised in cooperation with the Centre for Gender Studies . Rasa Navickaite is a visiting PhD-student at the Herder Institute for Historical Research on East Central Europe, in Marburg (Germany). She will be speaking about the renowned Lithuanian-American archaeologist Marija Gimbutas (1921-1994) who is known for her research into Neotlithic and Bronze Age Cultures, and her theory of the Goddess-centered pre-historic civilization of “Old Europe”.

Navickaite combines transnational insights with gender study theories in and asks questions about the perception, interpretation and appropriation of Gimbutas’ persona. She is interested in the scientific and ideological writings of Gimbutas in the context of the Cold War and its aftermath.
