CHS - Grace Leksana - “Complexities of Remembering: The State, The People and Memory of the Indonesian Mass Killings”
|When:||Mo 12-03-2018 16:00 - 18:00|
CHS welcomes speaker Grace Leksana (University of Leiden), who will be speaking about the complexities of remembering in relation to the Indonesian Mass Killings of 1965-1966. In her PhD project she focuses on the construction of Indonesia’s collective memory and the changes that occur with a regime shift.
By using methods of oral history and archival research, Leksana investigates how local villagers live through different regimes of memory construction. She is especially interested in local mechanisms that persist, modify, or confront, the construction of memory. Her project will be conducted in two villages in Malang District, East Java.
