Kossmann Lecture 2018: Gareth Stedman Jones, "Marx's Final Utopia: The Rise and Fall of the Village Community"

Two hundred years ago Karl Marx was born. To commemorate and highlight this historical event, The Kossmann Lecture 2018 will be delivered by Gareth Stedman Jones, author of the widely acclaimed Marx biography Karl Marx: Greatness and Illusion (2016). Siep Stuurman, author of The Invention of Humanity: Equality and Difference in World History (HarvardUp, 2017) will offer a critical comment on the lecture. Afterwards there will be a reception.

Gareth Stedman Jones is Professor of Political Science, King’s College Cambridge.

Siep Stuurman is Professor of the History of Ideas at the University of Utrecht.

Ernst Kossmann (1922-2003) was Professor of Modern History at the University of Groningen.
