Governance and Navigation from Plato to Ibn Mājid
Abstract
Starting from ancient Greek sources on the one end, and from late medieval Arabic nautical sources on the other end, this presentation will explore the shared cosmological foundations of governance, knowledge, and maritime exploration. It will touch upon the alphanumeric basis of demiurgic disciplines or techno sciences, and on very practical aspects of early modern Indian Ocean navigation.
