Suvi Alt

Ms Suvi Alt, Ph.D. candidate at the University of Lapland, will be a visiting scholar to the HTIR Chair Group between February and April 2014. Drawing on the thought of Foucault, Sloterdijk, Agamben and others, Ms Alt’s work advances a critique of the biopolitics of human development and human security. Her research seeks to problematise the conception of the ‘human’ that these discourses presuppose as well as to engage critically with some of their existing biopolitical critiques in terms of their conceptualisation of the ‘beyond’ of the biopolitical. During her visit, Ms Alt will be advancing work on the problematisation and re-theorisation of concepts such as potentiality and contingency that are central to contemporary biopolitics of development and security.

Her visit is funded by an Erasmus grant provided by the University of Lapland.
