Professor Koenraad Jonckheere (Ghent University): "Three Hats and a Urinal: Some Thoughts on Curating Knowledge" + panel discussion

When:Th 12-07-2018 19:00 - 21:30
Where:Auditorium, Groninger Museum

Koenraad Jonckheere is associate professor in Northern Renaissance and Baroque Art at Ghent University. He published widely on seventeenth- and eighteenth-century art markets and on sixteenth-century Antwerp history and portrait painting. Recently, he has been working on a methodological issue which questions existing art-historical interpretative models in that it focuses on the early modern concept of Quaestio as a guiding principle for interpretation. He curated an exhibition on Michiel Coxcie for Museum M in Leuven and is involved with the reorganization of Ghent University's museum.

Professor Jonckheere's talk will be followed by a panel discussion on the topic of curating art and science. Taking part in this panel discussion are Ivan Gaskell (Bard Graduate Center, NY), Andreas Blühm (Groninger Museum), Sue-an van der Zijpp (Groninger Museum), Rolf ter Sluis (University Museum Groningen), Joost Keizer (RUG) and Ann-Sophie Lehmann (RUG). The lecture and panel discussion will be followed by drinks.
