Guest Lecture Series - History of Art, Architecture & Landscape
Everybody is cordially invited to the first of our Talks and Drinks guest lectures on Wednesday November 19 in the Zernikezaal at 17h.
We will welcome Dr. Noelia Fernández García, lecturer in Heritage Studies at the University of León, Spain, with her topic "Heritage of the Periphery: Memory and Identity in León after Franco"
Summary:
The Spanish Civil War, together with the subsequent Francoist dictatorship, resulted in a vast landscape of destruction across the various regions of Spain. In the aftermath, the country witnessed the imposition of rigid guidelines for the process of both material and spiritual reconstruction during the post-war period. Focusing on the northern province of León, this talk will present case studies related to Post-war reconstruction that exemplify how these events have shaped the identity and memory of the local communities from a contemporary perspective.
