Decolonize Hub - Roundtable on diversifying the Faculty of Arts curriculum

When:Tu 31-05-2022 16:00 - 18:00
Where:Room 1315.0031, Harmonie building

On Tuesday 31 May from 16.00-18.00 in room H1315.0031 the Decolonize Hub will host a roundtable discussion about the current Faculty of Arts curriculum and how it might be diversified.

The roundtable will feature staff members and students, including Anjana Singh, Rachel van der Merwe, Ya-pei Kuo, Patricia Leistner, Milena dos Santos Bendixen, and Lisa Morsink. The discussion will be moderated by Iva Pesa.

We will discuss the following three questions and we would love input from the audience as well:

  • The state of the current curriculum: what are its limitations, what should be changed and how can we do that? What kind of curriculum would we envision?
  • What are lecturers already doing to make teaching more inclusive and less Eurocentric? What kind of challenges do lecturers encounter in implementing these changes? How can students be of help in this process?
  • Survey: the Decolonize Hub has done one survey so far, about racism and discrimination within the Faculty of Arts. Do you have recommendations for future surveys? How can we effectively use surveys to find out what students want with regard to changes in the curriculum?
Both students and staff members from across the Faculty of Arts are very much welcome to attend this roundtable. No sign-up required.
