CMJS researchers initiate data science project on Spotify

29 November 2017

Robert Prey and Marc Esteve Del Valle, two researchers within the Research Centre for Media and Journalism Studies, start an innovative data science project on Spotify’s role in the music industry. Their data science project was selected in an university-wide competition organised by Research and Innovation Support, a part of CIT. Prey and Esteve Del Valle collaborate with data scientists from CIT. The Centre for Digital Humanities co-funds the project.

In their research project, Prey and Esteve Del Valle investigate whether streaming platform either consolidate or democratise traditional power relations in the music industry by analysing Spotify's promotion of artists and playlists.
