Young talent Longfonds grant for Loes Kistemaker
The 'Longfonds' annually supports a few talented young researchers to conduct research into lungs. With this support these researchers can gain work experience abroad or develop their own innovative line of research.
Dr. Loes Kistemaker, research group Molecular Pharmacology of GRIP, recently received €200,000 for setting up new pulmonary research. Dr. Kistemaker will examine the role of neuronal remodeling (structural changes in airway nerves that occur in asthma) to hyperreactivity, inflammation and remodeling of the airways in asthma. Ultimately, enhanced understanding of mechanisms underlying asthma symptoms may lead to improved treatment for asthma patients.
