Health Holland project for Reinoud Gosens

Reinoud Gosens receives €170k from Health~Holland for a consortium project awarded in the recent Organ-on-Chip call. Current animal and in vitro models fail to reproduce the complex architecture and multicellular interactions of (diseased) human lungs. The project aims to develop a physiologically relevant, scalable, and reproducible human 3D lung model to accelerate drug development. The consortium comprising LUMC, RuG, University of Twente, TNO, LocSense BV and Boehringer Ingelheim will integrate automated electrical barrier integrity measurements, controlled one-directional flow, and functional immune assays in a vascularized lung-on-chip. This will establish a reproducible, scalable platform in preparation for industrial implementation and commercialization within the Dutch life sciences sector.
