PharmacoEconomics in the ERA of Precision Medicine
Applications in Mental Health and Diabetes Mellitus
Precision medicine in the definition of the US National Research Council means tailoring medical treatment to the individual characteristics of each patient. From a pharmacoeconomic point of view the benefits of tailored treatments require evaluation. The comparison to current practice depends on a trade-off including testing procedure, available precision and common practice treatment, and sizes and prognosis of subgroups. Talitha Feenstra’s research focuses on methods to use routine data, statistical analyses and simulation modeling to support these trade-offs. This enhances decision making concerning precision medicine in various stages of the innovation process for Diabetes Mellitus and for two important mental disorders: Depression and Schizophrenia. The presentation will highlight issues met when evaluating precision medicine by examples in these application areas.
