Preventive health research at VITO
VITO is an independent research organization that provides innovative technological solutions to industry and public authorities. It also offers scientifically based advice and support in the research domains of chemistry, energy, materials, health and land use in order to stimulate sustainable development.
Strategic research at VITO-Health aims at developing technological innovations for preventive health, including biomarker discovery, targeted biomarker detection, and innovative health and disease monitoring solutions. Besides an overview of the research program, the following topics with applicability in clinical diagnostics will be highlighted in more detail:
· Interaction studies of nanoparticles in stem cells.
· Separation and detection of extracellular vesicles in liquid biopsies.
· Detection of single nucleotide polymorphisms using the patented nucleic acid mutation detection (THYNA) technology.

Dental stem cells: their potential in reinnervation and angiogenesis by using scaffolds.
This lecture will address human dental pulp stem cells and their potential in reinnervation and angiogenesis by using scaffolds. Furthermore recent data on the influence of L-PRF (Leucocyte Platelet Enriched Plasma) on neural stem cells and on endothelial cells will be presented.
