Membrane Proteomics Centre

The Membrane Proteomics Centre is one of the research Hotels of the Netherlands Proteomics Centre, at which expertise and technologies involved in membrane proteomics are further developed and implemented. The expertise includes: i) the cultivation of microorganisms under well-defined conditions, ii) the isolation and purification of membrane fractions, iii) the isolation and subfractionation of membrane proteins, iv) the cleavage of (membrane) proteins for peptide mass finger printing, v) the separation and subfractionation of membrane proteins or peptides derived thereof, vi) the detection and quantification of protein-protein and protein-ligand interactions and vii) the high-throughput HREM single particle analysis of (membrane) protein complexes. To accomplish these activities the Membrane Proteomics Centre applies key technologies for membrane isolation by differential centrifugation, membrane protein isolation and subfractionation using detergent screening, membrane protein purification and finally functional and structural characterization of the purified membrane proteins.
