Architecture of adaptive systems
Main applications:
- How is the architecture of a complex biological system (i.e. the set of mechanisms determining the behaviour of a system) shaped by adaptive processes?
- How does the architecture of a system affect the direction, speed and outcome of adaptation and the capacity of the system to cope with environmental change?
Key aspects studied:
Genomic architecture, gene regulation networks, the holobiome (e.g. gut flora), neural networks, physiological feedback and control mechanisms, behavioural syndromes, social interaction networks, food webs and other species interaction networks.
