Eliza Walaszczyk

Eliza Walaszczyk is a PhD student at the Department of Epidemiology under supervision of Professor Harold Snieder, head of the Genetic Epidemiology & Bioinformatics Unit. She obtained a Master Of Science in Medical Biotechnology at the Pomaranian Medical University, Poland in 2014. Shortly after graduation she moved to Eindhoven to do an internship at the Netherlands Comprehensive Cancer Organization (Integraal Kankercentrum Nederland, IKNL).  There, she performed research on primary melanoma in the digestive tract using access to the National Cancer Register.

Her focus will be on the project “Epigenetics in development of type 2 diabetes” in collaboration with the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (Rijksinstituut voor Volksgezondheid en Milieu, RIVM). The project will consist of collection and analyses of DNA methylation profiles, obtained from samples of the Doetinchem Cohort Study. Specific objective of this study is to explore whether these methylation profiles are predictive for type 2 diabetes risk, and whether they are associated with environmental factors.
