ENTEG seminar by Dr. George Lavidas

The global energy transition will require efficient and cost effective utilization of all indigenous resources. Some renewables have reached maturity levels while others are still emerging, with careful steps required to ensure that they will reach their full potential. Waves are abundant and constitute a high-density energy source, although their current energy cost estimates make them difficult to be considered for energy integration. A region’s wave energy potential is amongst the first interesting indicators. However, resource quantification and estimation of energy production by wave energy converters has to rely upon specific information, and should always consider local environmental and spatial considerations on how reduce uncertainties. Highlighting the fact that interdisciplinary methodologies can offer valuable assistance in selection of wave energy converters, that are able to fully take into advantage regional wave conditions. The presentation will also showcase current developments in the WAVe Resource for Electrical Production (WAVREP) project, will briefly discuss the next steps and the expected outcomes.
