Cooperation GSG/CEASG and School of Social Development and Public Policy of Beijing Normal University

On 26 March 2015, Globlisation Studies Groningen (GSG) and the Centre for East Asian Studies Groningen (CEASG) jointly hosted a visit by the School of Social Development and Public Policy (SSDPP) of Beijing Normal University.

The Beijing delegation, let by Prof Qiang Zhang, Associate Dean of the SSDPP, and accompanied by his colleagues Dr Lichao Yang and Ms Lei Zhu, undertook this mission as a follow-up to the visit to the SSDPP by Prof Joost Herman, Director of the GSG, Dr Pieter Boele van Hensbroek and Dr Yongjun Zhao in 2013-2014. Prof Tjalling Halbertsma, Director International of CEASG, also provided an introduction to the newly-established CEASG as a bridge between Europe and East Asia for teaching and research cooperation.

All the participants agreed on a wide range of areas of cooperation, involving exchanges of teaching staff and students especially for the Masters programmes, joint development of curricula in humanitarian studies, further exploration of creating joint degree programmes at Masters level, and research cooperation in the form of visiting scholars and joint acquisition of externally-funded projects particularly in the area of humanitarian studies, China’s development and China as a global player. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was envisaged to be approved by both parties at a later stage.
