Mongolia in the Region and the Wider World
Mongolia is a country at a crossroads. Wedged between two major powers, China and Russia, strategically located for trans-Eurasian logistics, rich with resources and blessed with beautiful nature, it has a large potential for development. At the same time, Mongolia is faced with many challenges, ranging from environmental pollution and high-speed urbanisation to its complicated relationship with China. Nonetheless, it seems that the country has an important role to play in the future – not only for the East Asian region, but also for the wider world.
On 14 December, at the last lecture of the calendar year, we will welcome a very eminent guest to Groningen: the Ambassador of Mongolia to the Netherlands, H.E. Mr. Od Och. He will visit us to deliver a lecture about his country’s position in the region of Central and East Asia, as well as the wider world. With an impressive career in international diplomacy, Mr Och is well-suited to do so. Positions which he has held include national protection officer to the UNHCR, foreign policy adviser to the Mongolian Prime Minister, and Permanent Representative to the UN.
This lecture, organised in cooperation with SIB Groningen, is free and open to everyone. The event will begin at 19.00 and takes place in the Van Swinderenhuys (Oude Boteringestraat 19).
