Research Facilities

Our current facilities include:
  • Atmospheric pressure 1- and 2-D flames (3 benches)
  • Low-pressure (down to 20 torr) flames (2 benches)
  • Rapid compression machine (60 Bar)
  • High–temperature atmospheric-pressure gas cell (up to 1900 K)

Our diagnostic facilities include an array of YAG, dye and diode lasers, spectrometers, CCD camera's and fully automated data acquisition equipment with which we perform the following diagnostics:
  • Coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering for nitrogen thermometry
  • Laser-induced fluorescence for densities of trace components such as NO, CO, OH, CH.
  • Spontaneous Raman scattering for major species (CH4, H2, N2, O2,CO2, CO, H2O), powered by a 30 W Nd:YLF laser system
  • Tunable diode laser spectroscopy in the near IR for various species (CO, C2H2, HCN)
  • Cavity ring-down spectroscopy from the UV (220 nm) to the IR (3.7 mm)
  • Laser scattering and laser induced incandescence for particles in flames
  • 1-D laser Doppler anemometry

The optical methods are complemented by various standard probe measurements.

For use with diagnostical methods the flame systems are equipped with precision positioners.
