Metamaterials

Metamaterials are emerging materials with unusual properties expanding the known horizons and enabling multifunctional performance highly needed in acoustics, medicine, and robotics. In our research, we push forward two frontiers: study fundamental relations between material and its architecture for discovering more advanced properties and develop metamaterials for smart implant, sound insulation, vibration reduction, and robotic grippers. We explore the mechanical and dynamic characteristics of metamaterials using theoretical (e.g., mass-spring models) and numerical (finite-element modeling) techniques and design new configurations of metamaterials with target functionalities. We fabricate metamaterial structures using modern 3D-printing techniques and test them in the lab by means of universal testing machine, digital image correlation, laser Doppler vibrometer, and impedance tube.

We are looking for motivated master and bachelor students to join our group. If you are interested check the link on the left.
