Title: Prototype-based clustering: similarities, certainties and validation

Abstract:
Clustering is one of the first steps analyzing unknown data.
There are many different clustering approaches with the general aim to find structures within a data set, based on similarities of the data objects.

The talk concentrates on prototype-based methods taking into account considerations regarding uncertainties in the data. Due to the nature of the problem the validation of clustering results is a delicate task. Therefore, emphasis is also put on cluster validation and on how to avoid common pitfalls.
