Living on the edge: exploring the linguistic, cultural, and ethnic boundaries of the Dolgan communtiy
Among the peoples of arctic Siberia, the Dolgans are known for their recent formation as an ethnolinguistic group, as well as for their mixed character: their culture, language, and genetic profile clearly show Turkic, Tungusic and possibly Samoyedic elements, testifying to a history of extensive migration and contact. This presentation aims to shed light on the historical developments that have led to the formation of the Dolgan people as a separate ethnolinguistic group, as well as on their current cultural and linguistic position.
