Seminar Human Rights (6 ECTS)

Brief course description: The Human Rights Seminar provides deeper insights into particular human rights that have an impact on human dignity. The seminar takes a close look at the content and scope of the obligation to prohibit, punish, and prevent torture, as well as the obligations of states to respect, protect, and fulfil economic, social and cultural rights together with the justiciability of these rights. Relevant standards as developed and interpreted by human rights bodies are identified and discussed.
Teaching method: Lectures will be used to introduce specific topics that will be discussed in class. Students are expected to investigate selected issues mainly on their own, to report thereon in papers and presentations and to discuss these in class.
Assessment: The course will be assessed on the basis of written and oral presentations and participation in class.
