Security & Privacy in Digital Society (6 ECTS)

Brief course description:
The course includes six themes:
1) Important concepts and terms (law, philosophy of law, sociology of law, criminology);
2) Methods used by cybercriminals and nature, extent and damage resulting from deviant behaviour (law, sociology of law, criminology);
3) Cyber security, prevention of cyber incidents and security measures (law);
4) Types of accountability and applicability of international law, including the law of State responsibility, and municipal law, including material criminal law in relation to digitalisation (law, philosophy of law);
5) Fundamental rights in a digital society (law, philosophy of law);
6) Philosophy of technology (philosophy of law).
The course consists of 6 lectures and 6 working groups. During the lectures, the course material is dealt with per theme. During the working groups, the knowledge and understanding are deepened by allowing the students to actively work with the material. The students are divided into groups. One of the groups prepares a working group every week, meaning that an in-depth introduction into a theme of a week is given, an article is discussed and a group discussion is led.

Teaching method: Lectures, tutorials.

Assessment: Written exam (essay questions).
