Short Biography Dr. Jacobien Rutgers
Jacobien Rutgers is reader in law at the Free University (VU) of Amsterdam. She studied in Groningen and obtained her PhD at the European University Institute (Florence). Before returning to academia, she worked for four years at a practising lawyer in one of the large law firms in Amsterdam. She is a substitute-judge at the Court of Appeal in Amsterdam. Recent publications include European Competence and a European Civil Code, a Common Frame of Reference or an Optional Instrument, Chapter 13 in: A.S. Hartkamp et al. (eds.), Towards a European Civil Code, Fourth Revised and Expanded Edition, Wolters Kluwer, 2011, 311-331 and she is one of the editors together with Hugh Beale, Bénédicte Fauvarque-Cosson, Denis Tallon and Stefan Vogenauer of the second edition of Cases, Materials and Text on Contract Law, Ius Commune Casebooks for the common law of Europe (Oxford: Hart Publishing, 2011).
