Short Biography Dr. Chantal Mak

Chantal Mak is an associate professor of private law at the Centre for the Study of European Contract Law (CSECL) of the University of Amsterdam. Her research focuses on constitutional aspects of European contract law. In this field, she made a comparative analysis of the impact of fundamental rights on contractual relationships in the Netherlands, Germany, Italy and England (2001-2007). In the context of this (PhD) project, she participated in the EC-funded Research Training Network ‘Fundamental Rights and Private Law in the European Union’, for which she was a member of the research team at the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna in Pisa (2004-2006). More recently, she co-authored a report on the legal framework for digital content contracts for consumers (a study conducted by CSECL and the Amsterdam Institute for Information Law for the European Commission, published in November 2011). Her current research concerns the impact of fundamental rights on judicial reasoning in the EU's multi-level system of private law. Her teaching comprises several Master courses in the field of European Private Law.
