Opmerkingen

The curriculum of the Physics track Quantum Universe consists of 60 ECTS of courses, followed by a Master's Research Project of 60 ECTS. More information about the degree programme and its curriculum is available on the Student Portal.

In order to successfully complete the degree programme, each student must follow 8 mandatory courses (40 ECTS, as listed above) and 4 optional courses (20 ECTS, chosen from the list of optional courses below). In case the student prefers to take other courses in one of the categories, he/she needs to ask permission, in advance, by the Board of Examiners.


Optional courses and specializations

Out of all optional courses listed below, 4 courses (20 ECTS) must be chosen.

All courses are available to choose from, but for an optimal study programme it is recommended to pick one elective every period. The courses are divided into four sub-categories to offer different lines of specialization within the electives. These specializations are indicated by the following abbreviations:
- AP: Astrophysics;
- EP: Experimental Physics;
- TP: Theoretical Physics;
- Edu: Education.

The two courses in the category Education (Edu) offer students the possibility to get acquainted with the work of a high school Physics teacher in the Netherlands. The courses are taught in Dutch and have to be followed simultaneously. Upon successfull completion of both courses students have the possibility to follow the post-master degree programme 'Leraar Voorbereidend Hoger Onderwijs in de Bètawetenschappen' (LVHO) where they only still have to follow 50 ECTS, instead of the normal 60 ECTS.

Opmerkingen

The two courses in this category offer students the possibility to get acquainted with the work of a high school Physics teacher in the Netherlands. The courses are taught in Dutch and have to be followed simultaneously. Upon successfull completion of both courses students have the possibility to follow the post-master degree programme 'Leraar Voorbereidend Hoger Onderwijs in de Bètawetenschappen' (LVHO) where they only still have to follow 50 ECTS, instead of the normal 60 ECTS.

The courses belong together and are as such also meant to be followed together.

Since both courses are given in the second semester, interested students are free to pick optional courses from the other specialisations during the first semester.

Opmerkingen

The four modules 'Academic Skills' (WMPH001-00), 'Career Perspectives' (WMPH18003), 'General Physics Colloquium' (WMPH002-00), and 'Scientific Integrity' (WMPH019-00) are not separate course units, but are a mandatory part of the Master's Research Project. They are designed to follow during a research project, but it is possible for students to do (parts of) these modules already during the first year of the master's degree programme.
