5 | Organization | CFM004A05 |
Organizations are a prominent, if not the dominant, characteristic of modern societies’ (Scott 1973, p3). Therefore, learning about theory and research of Organizations will help us understand the society that we live in. In the same vein, learning about Organizations allows us to compare and contrast them with entrepreneurial ventures. Increasingly, Organizations are expected to contribute to sustainability by committing to environmental stewardship, social well-being, and economic prosperity. However, existing organizations are generally slow to change. This course is aimed to increase our understanding of how organizations function and how they respond to societal and institutional pressures to change.
In this course, students will acquire the skills to use quantitative data to recognize and analyze research problems related to sustainable organizations. We will review and discuss state-of-the-art academic papers with a special focus on how the authors use data analysis to approach their research questions. |
