Leerdoelen At the end of the course, the student is able to:
1. work in a group;
2. apply and compile basic physics knowledge to tackle an outstanding problem in an industrial setting;
3. plan a project, time and resource wise;
4. present crisp conclusion allowing managerial go no go decisions.
Omschrijving The course is built around a topic of contemporary interest to Dutch industry.The topic is attacked by the students in small working groups each of them owning a specific part of the project. In weekly group meetings the progress is presented and tasks for the next week distributed, leading to a final report on which management would be able to take a go no go decision.

The topic is introduced by the lecturers and project supervisors (Schuurmans and Hoekstra). In addition Dr. Frank Schuurmans (vice-president of research at ASML) will introduce the ins and outs of working in industry to maintain progress based on continuous optimization and new developments. The project offered in the course "Physics with Industry" will be related to next generation EUV nanolithography machines and is multidisciplinary as it requires input from many fields of physics from atomic scale processes via material properties to optics. Moreover, decisions on required technology and instrumentation options need to be made while balancing meeting minimal targets versus over-designing and costs.

When knowledge is required that is not in the core curriculum, it will be offered by the lecturers or external experts may be invited to contribute.
