Leerdoelen At the end of the course, the student is able to:

acquire an active knowledge base of particle physics by identifying the building blocks quarks, leptons, and the force carriers and reviewing the concepts of the Standard Model (QCD and the electroweak interaction) at a phenomenological level. Applying the concepts of the Standard Model the particle properties such as mass, spin, lifetime and decay modes can be analyzed.

by using the concepts from the Standard Model, exploiting the properties of key particles, and taking input from cosmology, the student can evaluate and compare the modern experimental searches for new physics within and beyond the Standard Model.

summarize and assess selected current articles on particle physics.
Omschrijving This course addresses the various aspects of the Standard Model (SM) of particle physics from a phenomenological perspective. The basic concepts of the SM and its manifestation in particle properties and cosmology will be explored from both theoretical and experimental point of views. This includes the discussion of the important efforts at accelerator facilities, astrophysical observatories, and theoretical advances.
