Leerdoelen | At the end of the course, the student is able to: 1. interpret nuclear decay schemes and solve problems concerning radioactive decay and radioactive equilibrium 2. identify and describe the most important interactions between radiation and matter and explain the properties of different types of ionizing radiation 3. calculate the range and energy loss of ionizing radiation in matter. 4. describe the principles of radiation detectors and solve simple problems on efficiency, detection limits and uncertainty in radiation measurements. 5. describe the processes that are involved in the interaction of radiation with biological material, use the concept of dose and perform simple dose and shielding calculations. 6. be critical about the presented material and pose relevant questions during lectures and tutorials. |
