Omschrijving | Modern medicine is a rapidly evolving field with new challenges facing the pharmaceutical scientist and pharmacist. The increasing prevalence of chronic diseases, resistance to antibiotics and an ageing population require new views on drug development, as the current treatment arsenal provides insufficient disease-modifying capacity. This requires novel and at times unconventional strategies for pharmaceutical design and engineering. In this perspective, the course aims to provide students with an in depth theoretical training in target-identification, drug development, and formulation. The aim of the course is to provide a case presentation in which Pharmaceutical Design and Engineering plays a key role. The students receive on an individual basis a general description of the requirement for the content of a case presentation. There are 6 cases on different topics. The cases will be distributed among the students on the first day of the course. The students will work on the case during the whole course and have two feedback moments with the respective teacher. In parallel teachers will provide lectures centered around specific articles and topics for each one of the cases. The lectures should provide inspiration for the case presentation and the teachers are also available for questions. All this should result in a comprehensive and clear case presentation that will be given by on the last Thursday or Friday of the course. In this presentation the questions provided for each case should be answered. Please note that the case presentation should also include original idea's on novel Pharmaceutical Design and Engineering solutions that should be provided by the students themselves and not by the teachers. |
