Leerdoelen | The student is able 1. to define the key concepts of experimental design in particular that of the Taguchi method; 2. to explain the contribution of the Taguchi approach to quality and cost improvement; 3. to derive the statistical design objects associated with a selected design, starting from the basic analysis of variance; 4. to synthesize upon as well as apply the Taguchi method in an engineering setting and to evaluate the results obtained from Taguchi analysis. |

Omschrijving | Engineering problems are often investigated by conducting an experiment. This course gives a conceptual and mathematical background of testing engineering hypotheses by statistical modeling as well as the statistical analysis by the statistical programming language R. During the course statistical principles will be elaborated and applied to solving engineering type inference problems by the design of experiments, analysis of variance, factorial design and Taguchi design. Students will be challenged to apply the approach to data from empirical research. This course builds on Statistics and Stochastics for IEM in the first year. |
