Leerdoelen At the end of the course, the student is able to:
1. analyse the differences between traditional and modern information systems, such as RDBMS and Blockchain and identify the suitability of each type of system
2. examine the suitability of various database management systems to different applications, such as healthcare and geographical information systems
3. review critically scientific papers and present the review to a broad audience
4. explain and implement RDBMS normalisation up to BCNF
5. apply association analysis to a set of transactions
6. describe the components of internet of things and its applications
Omschrijving The topics that are covered in this course include:
- Relational Databases (SQL, Normalization, triggers, stored procedures, ...)
- Blockchain and smart contracts
- Geographical Information Systems
- Healthcare Information Systems
- Association Analysis
- Internet of Things

Toetsvorm Practisch werk (PR), Schriftelijk tentamen (WE)
(The practicals, consisting of lab assignments and a poster presentation, are worth 70% and the exam is worth 30% of the grade. The students must pass both the exam and the practicals. Grades will be rounded to the nearest half integer. However, anything between 5.5 to 6 will be rounded up to 6 and anything between 5 and 5.5 will be rounded down to 5. Failed assignments may be revised by the following week, but can only be graded with a maximum of 6.)
