Leerdoelen At the end of the course, the student is able to:
1.
formulate a research plan and process feedback from supervisors (and peers) in an (interdisciplinary) team
2.

conduct computational experiments (perform the planned research) independently
3.
present his/her results in English by means of a written report as well as a presentation to an academic and professional audience
Omschrijving The master research project TCCM is a compulsory part of the TCCM master and includes a session on scientific integrity, as indicated on the schedule. Please note that the module scientific integrity is compulsory. Depending on the mobility requirements, 3 to 4 months (minimal 3 months) research is performed at one of the partner universities of the consortium.
The student has to work independently on a research project in the field of theoretical chemistry/computational modeling. The protocol of a MSc thesis comprises the following steps:

1. The student chooses his/her research topic, from the pool of topics that will be provided by TCCM core partners, and the university of the consortium for the mobility period upon discussion with the TCCM local coordinator;
2. Preliminary literature study, problem formulation and planning;
3. Developing, together with the project supervisors a preliminary research proposal including: title, name, student number; supervisors, short state of the art, approach, expected results, timing and literature;

4. Handing in the project proposal and a list of the completed courses;

5. Literature study, orientation and careful consideration of the different phases;

6. Actual work;

7. Analyze, interpret and discuss results in relation with the state of the art during regular discussion with supervisor/s (including results presentation and modification of the original research proposal if and when needed);

8. Writing the final scientific report and give an oral presentation;

9. Assessment and calculation of the examination mark;

10. Providing the Education Support Desk the following documents:

1) copy of the Thesis, upload in repository

2) evaluation form signed by the review committee (at least two persons: supervisor/s and additional scientific personnel).

Entreevoorwaarden The course unit assumes prior knowledge and skills, acquired from:
The Bachelor research project.
Courses followed in the TCCM master from year 1 and 2.
Opmerkingen Formative assessment (midterm evaluation and research plan) have to be passed at sufficient level (go/no go)
Pass mark: 6. In order to pass the master research project the student must score at least 5.5 for each aspect mentioned on the assessment form (A-D)

Note:
Scientific integrity module is compulsory. Without having attended this module the course cannot be completed.
